Enabling Government Programs

Forest Conservation & Ecological Planning

Extensive forest surveys conducted throughout Odisha helped assess the state’s floral wealth, especially Orchids — regarded as “Indicator Species” representing the health of forests.

These scientific findings supported Government agencies in identifying ecological challenges and improving long-term conservation and forest planning strategies.

Major Contributions

✔ Restoration of roads and bridge remote forest regions which help protection work
✔ Easier access to inaccessible conservation zones
✔ Coordination with Government departments
✔ Improved ecological management systems

Conservation Infrastructure

Orchidariums & Rehabilitation Centers

Established Orchidariums and Medicinal Plant Rehabilitation & Conservation Centers across forest regions of Odisha to protect critically endangered plant species.

Government laboratories raised seedlings of medicinal plants, which were later cultivated in farms and distributed to the public for Ayurvedic medicinal use.

Impact

✔ Protection of rare orchid species
✔ Conservation of medicinal plants
✔ Promotion of biodiversity preservation
✔ Scientific cultivation of valuable plant species

Livelihood Generation

Empowering Local Communities

Through direct interaction and education of local forest-dwelling communities across Odisha, Dr. Misra strengthened conservation participation at the grassroots level.

Large conservation centers, including the Guruguria Center in Similipal, generated employment opportunities for local people.

Communities also began cultivating medicinal plants, creating long-term income sources and sustainable livelihoods.

Social Benefits

✔ Thousands of livelihoods supported
✔ Sustainable forest-based economy
✔ Community-driven conservation
✔ Long-term rural employment generation

Public Awareness

Creating Awareness for Orchid Conservation

In collaboration with Government institutions, Dr. Misra established Orchidariums at RPRC and Nandankanan, Bhubaneswar.

These centers greatly increased public awareness about orchids, biodiversity conservation, and the ecological importance of preserving rare plant species.

Public Impact

✔ Increased biodiversity awareness
✔ Educational exposure for students & researchers
✔ Public engagement in conservation
✔ Promotion of ecological responsibility
